DESCRIPTION:\nThis month's speaker is Dan Buchanan from the First American Title Insurance Company, and will present title issues estate planning professionals need to know.\n \nABOUT THE SPEAKER\n \nDan Buchanan is Senior Vice President and Underwriting Counsel for First American Title Insurance Company and is the Senior Division Underwriter for the Company’s Direct Division.  \n \nAt First American, Dan's duties include overseeing the underwriting process for the Company’s Direct Division. He is responsible for establishing and communicating underwriting practices and policies, making underwriting decisions on high liability transactions, and assisting underwriters in resolving title issues, for both direct operations and for First American’s underwritten agents in a number of key states. He also supports First American’s national escrow operations and assists in dealing with complex escrow questions and the development of escrow procedures. He is active in the California Land Title Association, serving on the Board of Governors and its Executive Committee, the Forms & Practices Committee, and the Legislative Committee, and he represents First American on the American Land Title Association’s Title Counsel Committee. Dan is also a Past President of the Riverside County Bar Association.  \n \nDan previously served as the Senior Underwriter for the Company’s Southwest Division. Before that he was Manager of Claims and Underwriting for Southern California, and before that served as the Regional Counsel for First American Title Company for Riverside County. Prior to joining First American in March 1999, Dan had been in private practice in Riverside since 1986.  \n
